Support for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens need solutions quickly. We cannot allow political gridlock to continue delaying solutions.

Medicare does not cover custodial supports such as day-to-day in-home support for aging individuals. This practice is instrumental in preventing serious accidents, worsening illness, and loneliness. Medicare also does not meaningfully cover long-term skilled nursing or memory care for seniors with advanced needs. This leaves our seniors at the mercy of private equity firms which drain their assets and lock them in poorly-staffed facilities. Medicaid (HUSKY) coverage kicks in only after seniors have lost all their assets and nearly all their savings.

It’s time to change that.

I seek to eliminate asset screening and replace Medicare coverage with guaranteed HUSKY (Medicaid) for ALL folks over 65, thus safeguarding our seniors’ hard-earned savings and family agency. I will also advocate for a universal basic income and health coverage for full-time caregivers of senior citizens. This would weaken predatory private equity firms in elder care while empowering trusted family and friends to care for our seniors. It would also avoid putting additional, unnecessary strain on thinly-spread nursing professionals and also allow caregivers to eliminate the stress of maintaining an additional full-time job on top of looking after our treasured senior citizens.

I will fight for the serious implementation of Healthcare for All by strengthening and building on HUSKY Health (Medicaid) in phases, starting with senior citizens, children, and families. This would decouple wellness from outdated “typical” working expectations, thus empowering parents, seniors, folks with limited mobility or neurodivergence, small business, and the working class as a whole.

I will also pursue grants and policy revision to keep our district safe through proper staffing and funding of the fire department. I also firmly believe in empowering unarmed mental health crisis responders as well as state‑mandated mental health supports in public schools to preserve our neighbors’ dignity and nurture wellness during adolescence and times of need.

No neighbor should fall through the cracks health-wise.

Public Health

As an active community member, I have seen the many ways in which political gatekeepers forget they’re working for you.

As your representative, I will fight to make local policy accessible and welcoming to all generations and fields of expertise. We need voices of neighbors working in agriculture, education, healthcare, childcare, service industries, liberal arts, and technical trades in decision-making spaces.

In addition to term limits, I also seek to support my neighbors’ civic engagement by creating structured mentorship programs for young people entering civic service. I am also committed to investing in community spaces and improving low‑cost or free public transportation to promote everyday community engagement.

Accessibility

I seek to revise outdated fiscal guardrails so fair sums of revenue reach all our public schools reliably. I also prioritize bringing the Education Cost Sharing formula - which funds all public school districts in CT - up-to-date in covering inflation and other increased costs of operation.

I am also committed to protecting and expanding special education funding to ensure all students’ needs are addressed equitably and with dignity. Furthermore, I am a champion for defending a curriculum inclusive of the humanities & liberal arts to invest in leaders armed with an informed, global perspective.

The primary purpose of education is to prepare our kids for a rapidly changing world. A robust, fully-funded public school system will ensure this.
